Please give us a short summary of your website?
Saigon Scene.com is about one person's experiences living in vibrant and exciting Saigon. See what Saigon has to offer in terms of attractions for your Vietnam holiday or vacation.
What inspired you to launch your own website?
I had never made a website before, so I wanted to see if I could make a website and get it on the web. As I enjoy living in Ho Chi Minh, I thought that I would make the websiet about Saigon.
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
Saigon scene.com is my first website, and it has been up about a month.
How did you decide on a name for your website?
I new I wanted the website to be about saigon, so I just sat down and had a brainstorming session to come up with a suitable name.
What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?
Most site about Vietnam or Saigon just sell tours and give a very brief description of various sites.
I have tried to make mine more personal by writing from my perspective about sites and attractions I have found interesting since living in Saigon.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
At the moment the goal is to try and get the site ranked so that it gets regular traffic.
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
I not worried about money, it has been more about seeing if I could make and get a website up and running. It has taken a lot of time to get the website up, but it has been fun. Succes now would be increasing its page rank and increasing the amount of traffic.
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
I would not change a lot, I like to keep it simple in terms of design and layout. I would be able to focus more on the writing.
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
Yes keeping up with demand is no problem as I am not really selling anything.
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
When I started out I didn't realize that getting ranked and getting traffic was going to be the biggest problem. I thought that just the making of the website was the difficult part.
What has been your biggest challenge?
Getting ranked and increasing the level of traffic to my website.
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
Visiting forums related to my website and then asnwering questions with good information, and then linking to my website after answering their any question in the forum.
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
It has been more time consuming that I thought it would be. I though it would maybe take a few months to get a website up but it took me about a year. I had to teach my self HTML and everything along the way to make it work.
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
I have run the website for a month already, and will keep it up as indefinitely.
What suggestions would you give new people trying to make a website?
Buy software like "Dreamweaver," it makes the whole job a lot easier.
Find a good book about Search Engine Optimization before starting.
