Name of your website?

Vietnam Extremes

Your name?

Marcel Lennartz

Your Location (city, etc)

Ho Chi Minh City

Please give us a short summary of your website?

Web blog with information about news, sports, business and development in Vietnam.

What inspired you to launch your own website?

I've been in Vietnam for 13 years and it is simply a great country.

When did you launch your first website, and what was it?

In 1999 which was the website of my second company I worked for in Vietnam. Thereafter I opened many other vietnam relates sites such as http://vietnam.startkabel.nl

How did you decide on a name for your website?

A brainstorming session with a friend.

What makes it different from other, similar offerings?

The content is written by a foreigner who has been living in Vietnam since 1995. I first entered Vietnam in 1992 when the country wasn't ready for foreigner. Only bicycles were found on the street, etcetera. I've seen the development of the country from basically an extremely poor country to a country that is developing quicker than any other country

What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)

To get as many visitors to read the stories I publish about Vietnam and to get people interested in this wonderful country

How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?

Money is not an issue.

If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?

I would complete redo the design of the site, attract more sponsors and add a forum to the site for expats, travellers and also add a recruitment section. I would also add a dedicated section to children charity as there are many children in Vietnam that could do with some extra support from outside.

If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?

Sure! In that case I would hire people to help me support it.

What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?

Increased hosting costs and sleepless nights

What has been your biggest challenge?

Writing the first content because I am absolutely not a professional writer.

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

Manually contacting other websites to ask them to include a link to my site

How has running your website differed from your expectations?

It is more positive in the sense that the layout looks better than expected and when I look back I think the text is also better than I had hoped for.

How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?

Approx 6 month and I will just keep it running

Do you add a lot of pictures to your site?

Probably not enough. I would like to add more images and add high quality banners.

What is your website address?
